The Town of Puerto Lopez is located only 15 km (15 minutes by bus or car) north of AZULUNA. Puerto Lopez has a wide bay dotted with fishing boats and backed by green hills inland. It is an enjoyable fishing town with a lovely beach. In the morning, you can watch fisherman bring in and clean their catches, and in the afternoon see them cleaning and repairing their nets and boats. The town of Puerto Lopez also serves a base for exploring the Machalilla National Park and the surrounding area.

In town, there are many restaurants, a few bars (with satellite T.V.), tour companies (that provide tours to the Isla de la Plata, whale watching tours and scuba diving excursions), a marketplace, the Machalilla National Park office, a bank and internet cafes.
